Making their debut on the Extreme Sailing Series 2012 circuit is the culmination of a year-long journey for the Danish entry. The co-skippers and crew have set an ambitious goal for themselves to become one of the top teams on the water.
By seating the public near the action with Stadium Sailing, the creators of the Extreme Sailing Series have set new standards, both in terms of the high level of competition and sporting entertainment. In this environment, fans of the sport experience the heat of the battle on the water in close proximity to the crews who are racing side-by-side close to shore.
Their Danish team’s sponsor, SAP, the market and technology leader in business management software, enables the company to play a major role at the forefront of promoting sailing on an international level. The SAP Extreme Sailing Team is the only team on the Extreme Sailing circuit to feature co-skippers. With Jes Gram-Hansen (helm) and Rasmus Kostner (tactician) taking joint control, the two are joined by Jonas Hvid-Neilsen on the bow alongside fellow Dane Mikkel Rossberg and British sailor Pete Cumming.
As a team, the crew can list America’s Cup wins, a host of world championship titles and four Atlantic crossings among their combined accomplishments.
The coming three seasons, the SAP Extreme Sailing Team will work in cooperation with the Sail Racing Test Team in product development, to assist in the research and testing phases for designing garments with functions and details that will be incorporated into the sailing gear of tomorrow.
